Fall For Dance Festival with Herman Cornejo

Luciana Paris and Herman Cornejo at Fall For Dance Festival 2012

Ms. Paris does well, enjoying the moments when Ms. Tharp asks the woman to do the partnering.

American Ballet Theatre dancers Herman Cornejo and Luciana Paris came out in evening finery, and Paris was great

Leigh Witchel, The New York Post, October 1st, 2012

It is hard to resist Paris’s starry gaze and sparkly black dress. Their timing is solidly connected, the partnering trusting and carefree.

"More familiar to me and to many New York dancegoers are Twyla Tharp's Sinatra Suite and Martha Graham’s “Chronicle.” “Sinatra Suite,” presented by American Ballet Theater, takes Herman Cornejo and Luciana Paris through four duets, each showing lovers in a vividly different mood dancing to a different Sinatra song, and winds up with the man dancing alone — well oiled, emotional and vulnerable — to Sinatra’s recording of the Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer classic “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road).” Ms. Paris does well, enjoying the moments when Ms. Tharp asks the woman to do the partnering.

It’s so good to see Mr. Cornejo reveal many adult facets of himself, and so interesting to observe Ms. Tharp’s idiosyncratic, casually clever phraseology, that I feel ungrateful for having two contrary wishes. One is to see instead Ms. Tharp’s superior arrangement of these songs for seven couples in a different piece, “Nine Sinatra Songs” — a dance now better known with several companies outside New York than with any local troupes.  And the other is to see Mr. Cornejo, who has danced the work with Ballet Theater on this stage in recent years, find a new vehicle; he is a great dancer in his prime, crying out for a breakthrough".
